Dania Achermann is interested in the history of the geosciences since the 19th century and the role of technology in the development of knowledge about the natural environment. A particular focus is on the history of atmospheric and climate sciences, glaciology, ice, snow and polar research, as well as on processes of institutionalisation and interdisciplinarity. In her projects, she analyses how societal values as well as political and economic conditions have influenced scientific research. Furthermore, Professor Achermann investigates the role that technology has played in the generation of scientific knowledge.
