The Department of East European Studies analyses current phenomena in Russia, Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region.

Eastern European nations and cultures are in a period of upheaval,including a full scale war. A knowledge of imperial, Soviet and post-communist traditions is necessary in order to be able to understand the current situation. We especially emphasize the socio-cultural interpretation of economic and political processes.
