Caspar Pfrunder has written a doctoral thesis on the rise of constitutional texts as a central point of reference in the political practice and theory of modernity. Applying the methods of conceptual and comparative cultural history, he analyses the emergence of a belief in a written highest law as a form of textual politics and the ways in which actors hoped that its performance would change lived political reality, with concrete examples selected from the history of constitutionalism.
