American Studies

American Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that seeks to answer complex questions about American society, politics, cultures, and experiences.

Here at the HSG, we do this through publicly engaged research and teaching, from conservative to progressive movements and from past to present. We explore the role of the U.S. in the world, and the importance of the world to the U.S., through a variety of courses, from politics and history to culture and media. The field is represented by Assistant Professor Suzanne Enzerink and by Senior Lecturer in American Political Thought and Culture, Claudia Franziska Brühwiler.
