The Dynamics of Repression and Protest

According to Amnesty International, state repression of protest movements is increasing worldwide. However, autocracies do not always achieve their goals through repressive measures and can thus fuel protest movements all the more. Dr Christoph Steiner from the Institute of Political Science of the University of St.Gallen is researching the dynamics between forms of repression and protest movements. He recently won the Moore Award from the International Peace Science Society for his study on the effects of political imprisonment in the former GDR.
