In "Der politische Spielraum" I examine the relationship between democratic self-understanding and understanding of others as well as forms of imitation. In doing so, I criticise identitarian positions and discuss practices of artistic adoption as promoting democracy.
Contributions to "Spielraum", imitation and role experiments and the associated political understanding of self and others, especially in antiquity, the Enlightenment and the present:

Based on the ancient democratic self-conception (cf. polypragmosyne), in "Freedom and Transformation" I define a concept of transformative freedom in contrast to ideas of freedom as a privilege or property, which places civil rights and human rights in a close context. I explain why democratic freedom is not limited to participation rights, but also has an indispensable performative or transformative character.
Contributions to a performative or transformative understanding of democratic freedom include:

In the project "Limiting Power", I defend the demand for the separation of powers as a democratic imperative. I show why Montesquieu (in contrast to John Locke) can be used to formulate a critical concept of the separation of powers and why it is of central importance for current challenges.
Contributions to a critical understanding of the separation of powers and to the critique of political theories of the ideal:
In "Revolt and/or Ressentiment", I critically discuss Albert Camus' definition of revolt and his dismissal of revolt from ressentiment and ask whether ressentiment can be defined differently and subsequently transferred into a different relation to revolt - or not.
A research proposal on this topic has been submitted to the Gerda Henkel Foundation together with Thomas Telios, Jörg Metelmann, Matthias Flatscher and Simon Pistor.
