Career Opportunities

Master in Law and Economics (MLE)

Our MLE program offers a comprehensive legal education with a distinct professional and economic focus.

Examples of Professional Fields

Legal Career: As a legal assistant, you begin your legal career by supporting attorneys in their daily work. You conduct legal research, prepare documents, and contribute to solving complex legal issues. Your additional knowledge of economics allows you to approach legal matters from an economic perspective, which can be particularly advantageous in legal fields with economic connections or in leadership positions. The MLE at HSG provides a solid foundation for successfully passing the bar exam and pursuing a subsequent career as a lawyer, notary, or public prosecutor. However, even without taking the bar exam, opportunities such as working as a paralegal in a law firm are available to you.

Court: As a court clerk, you support judges in the preparation and drafting of court decisions. Your responsibilities include the legal analysis of cases, drafting decision proposals, and documenting procedural processes. The additional economic knowledge gained through the MLE programme at HSG can be particularly beneficial when dealing with complex economic issues. Working as a court clerk often serves as preparation for the bar exam and provides deeper insights into legal practice.

Consulting: As a corporate lawyer, you advise companies on a wide range of legal and economic issues, such as strategy, compliance, or corporate governance. You assist in the drafting and review of contracts or projects, ensure compliance with legal regulations, and resolve complex challenges. A specialization in tax consulting or auditing is also possible. This career path offers various specialization options and a diverse, dynamic work environment.

NGOs and International Organizations: In NGOs and international companies, you can focus on specific legal issues and engage in policy development as well as legal or economic consulting. These positions offer the opportunity to advocate for socially relevant issues and contribute to the development of international law. At the same time, they open up additional career paths in politics or diplomacy.

Academic Career: An academic career often begins with a position as a research assistant or doctoral candidate, where you write scholarly papers and contribute to research projects. In this role, you deepen your expertise in a specific area of law and further develop your methodological and analytical skills. As your academic career progresses, you may pursue a professorship, lead your own research projects, and significantly influence the development of legal discourse. Additionally, this career path offers you the opportunity to engage in international collaborations and establish yourself in global academic networks.
