Master in
Quantitative Economics and Finance (MiQE/F)

What is the impact of climate change on asset prices? How can taxes help mitigate the impact of supply shocks hitting the economy? What is the distributional impact of inflation? How does digitalisation shape economic interactions? Which labour market and development policies are most effective? The MiQE/F equips students with the skills to analyse such topics in economics and finance with rigorous quantitative methods, including econometric techniques required for the analysis of big data.

Career Opportunities

The MiQE/F influences your impact on the Economy and Society. Graduates of pure business and economics programmes often lack in-depth training in quantitative methods. Mathematicians/Statisticians do often lack an economics and finance background. We train individuals who are able to bridge the gap between Business, Mathematics, Statistics and Economics with the diverse skill set.

Policy and financial institutions and firms in the private sector are increasingly confronted with complex problems requiring a confident application of methods as well as a deep understanding of economic processes and the financial sector. MiQE/F graduates are well prepared for responsible positions in the areas of banking and finance, consulting and insurance. Due to its strong methodological training, MiQE/F graduates are also extremely well equipped to pursue an academic career.

What our students say about the MiQE/F programme

“I have always wanted to do a Master’s that is offering a strong focus on quantitative methods as well as on finance-related topics. The curriculum matched my needs perfectly with a vast array of maths, stats and computational courses.”
Ralph Enderle, Investment solutions manager at the VZ VermögensZentrum - Graduate MiQE/F 2022
“I chose MiQE/F because of its quantitative focus & flexibility of the curriculum. MiQE/F offered a wider and more attractive selection of electives than any other programme I was considering at the time – it was an obvious choice.”
Federico Baldi Lanfranchi, Ph.D. Candidate in Finance at EPFL - Graduate MiQE/F 2022
“Due to its mathematical focus, & because it focused equally on both economics & finance, the programme caught my eye from the beginning. This is a rare curriculum that added a lot of value to my education. I also appreciated the flexibility of the program”
Eric Offner, Ph.D. Candidate at University of Hamburg - Graduate MiQE/F 2021

Financing your studies

The MiQE/F degree is an investment into the future of our students that enables them to repay their study costs after the first few
months of employment. Thanks to extensive government subsidies for higher education, tuition fees are low in Switzerland compared to other countries. However, financing of one’s studies is an important consideration. Besides different prizes for outstanding students, the HSG offers a number of options to support their students.

Once a year we award MiQE/F prizes for outstanding student achievements at the Graduation Day in the Autumn semester. These prizes provide an incentive for consistently good results in the programme. All students studying in the MiQE/F programme are automatically considered.

Further information on the prizes for outstanding achievements can be found on this website.

Thanks to the STARR International Foundation, the MiQE/F programme can grant CHF 10,000 each two highly talented foreign-language students with a recognised foreign Bachelor’s degree every year. All students who have been admitted to the MEcon will be automatically considered for the STARR fellowships.

Further information on the STARR Excellence Scholarship can be found on the Student Funding - HSG Fund and Excellence Scholarships page.

A degree is an investment in your personal development and in the future. The financial aspect therefore should not be the only factor when deciding to begin or continue studies.

There are many ways of financing studies: employment, cantonal scholarships, private loans or simply family support. The Advice Center for Study Funding provides information about all these financing options.

Additional information canf you find on the website of the Advice Center.
