HSG social scholarships: an opportunity for students with financial difficulties

HSG social scholarship supports students from Switzerland and abroad who are unable tocontinue their studies or can only do so with great financial strain.

Not everyone who wants to study at HSG to pursue a successful future has the financial freedom to afford a degree course. HSG Social Scholarships are there to give these students the opportunity to finance their degree courses.

Over 500 social scholarships since 2015

Social scholarships are financed from the University budget, a levy of CHF 10 for each tuition fee paid. Since 2015, over 500 talented young people have been supported. “Behind every scholarship awarded, there is a personal story and a young person whose motivation and potential we believe in. When awarding scholarships, we look at each case individually. And we consider not only the financial aspects, but also factors such as the students’ commitment and motivation,” says Dr. oec. Jessica Aschari-Lincoln from HSG's Advice Center for Study Funding.

“It is important to me personally to attract young, committed talent to HSG and to give them the opportunity to develop into responsible, entrepreneurial professionals and leaders. HSG social scholarships are one way in which we can support them.”
Prof. Dr. Manuel Ammann, President of the University of St.Gallen (HSG) and Vice President of the HSG Foundation

Valuable support for ambitious, talented students

With the growth of HSG to around 10,000 enrolled students in the autumn semester of 2024 and the rising cost of living, the demand for social scholarships is also growing. Since 2019, the number of students who have submitted applications for funding has increased by 30%.

In order to continue supporting these young talents in the coming year, donations of CHF 500,000 are needed by summer 2025. The HSG Foundation is therefore conducting targeted fundraising for social scholarships.
