Accreditation of the study program in human medicine at the Universities of St.Gallen and Zurich

Aspiring physicians may only practice in Switzerland if they pass the federal examination in human medicine. Before that, they must complete an accredited course of study. The University of St.Gallen recently received the seal of approval.

At its meeting on June 23, 2023, the Swiss Accreditation Council accredited the study program Human Medicine at the University of St.Gallen and Zurich (JMM-HSG/UZH) without any conditions. The study program thus meets the standards of the Higher Education Promotion and Coordination Act (HFKG) and the Medical Professions Act (MedBG). The accreditation is valid until June 2030, after which it must be renewed. The detailed report on the external evaluation will be publicly available on the website of the Swiss Agency for Accreditation and Quality Assurance from September (Procedural Reports).

The two universities and the Cantonal Hospital of St.Gallen are pleased with the excellent result of the accreditation and would like to thank all lecturers as well as the partner hospitals and teaching physicians in Eastern Switzerland for their tireless efforts in setting up the program.
