We offer an intensive preparatory course both in German and in English that will enable you to meet the language requirements of the first year of your programme at the University of St.Gallen. Click on the language that you would like to get more information on.
The intensive German A1 course is aimed at Assessment Year students who have no prior knowledge of German. The University contacts these students proactively and provides them with information about the course and participation in it. Therefore, registration for the course does not take place via Language Services.

The intensive course "Studiensprache Deutsch" is the ideal introduction to the German language as it is used professionally by specialists and academics. The course focuses on the language of management, economics and law. You will practise the relevant German vocabulary and learn to understand the complex text structures of science and academic writing.
You will also be able to specifically hone your written and oral communication skills necessary in your everyday academic life communication. You will practise how to quickly understand information presented in scientific language, how to ask questions and how to engage in subject-related discussions.
In addition to the in-class instruction there will be hands-on field trips on and off campus where you will be able to apply what you have learned in class and gain more language confidence.
The course is aimed at foreign-language students enrolled in the German track of the Assessment Year who would like to enhance their German skills before beginning their studies at the University of St.Gallen.
Admission is granted to students enrolled in the Assessment Year at the University of St.Gallen who are non-native speakers of German with prior knowledge of German (at least B2 CEFR or equivalent). Other students of the University of St.Gallen with necessary prior knowledge of German may also apply and will be admitted if there are places available on the course.
The intensive course is an 8-day course comprising 48 lessons. It is taucht by Dr. phil. Elke Breitenfeldt, who has many years of experience in teaching this course.
The course fee is CHF 428 (including course materials).
The intensive course "English for Academic Studies" is the ideal way to prepare yourself for studying in English at university level.
The focus is on the skills necessary to complete the Assessment Year successfully, i.e. listening and note-taking, reading, academic writing as well as discussion and presentation skills. In addition, you will be exposed to a range of texts and vocabulary pertaining to management, business, economics, and law. During the course, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a group presentation, submit an academic style essay and get individual feedback from the instructor.
The intensive course 'English for Academic Studies' is aimed at students in the Assessment Year who would like to improve their language proficiency prior to studying in English at the University of St.Gallen.
Admission is granted to students enrolled in the Assessment Year at the University of St.Gallen with prior knowledge of English (at least B2 CEFR or equivalent). Other students of the University of St.Gallen with the necessary prior knowledge of English may also apply and will be admitted to the course if there are places available on the course.
This intensive course is an 8-day course comprising 48 lessons. The course is taught by experienced intensive course teachers Carolyn Skelton, MA, MSc and Dr. phil. Paul Skandera.
