Museums are spaces for conveying knowledge, expertise, insights and experiences. The relationships between past, present and future are brought to the fore, activated and promoted. Museums are social memories that invite reflection on the relationship between thinking, remembering and forgetting and thus encourage social and individual self-assurance and critical thinking. Museums are therefore of immense importance for societies. In democratic countries, they contribute to a lively public discourse.
