You are about to graduate from a HSG bachelor in business, economics or law and have always been intrigued to learn more about computer science topics? With a HSG Bachelor you already have a strong understanding of business models, markets, regulations, but our biggest future challenges are interdisciplinary. Studying our Master in Computer Science (MCS) enables you to actually understand AI and how to shape the future with it, make better technology investment decisions, evaluate cyber risk strategically and shape the rules of digital society. Upon completion of the Master's preparatory level in Computer Science you can join the MCS.
In our MCS you can choose to specialise in AI & Data Science, Software and Systems Engineering or Strategic Cybersecurity. Additionally, you can strengthen your competencies within business, economics and law, by visiting courses tailored to our MCS and courses offered by the other HSG master programmes. You can transfer to the MCS by completing a preparational year of 55 ECTS. It includes the core courses of the Bachelor in Computer Science and allows you to get up to speed.
All students with a HSG bachelor degreee other than Computer Science can complete a transfer year to join the Master in Computer Science. The Master's preparatory level in Computer Science consists of 55 ECTS and includes the core courses of the Bachelor in Computer Science.

Students who have previously completed courses in another HSG bachelor programme may be eligible for credit recognition towards the Master's Preparatory Level in Computer Science requirements. The Master's Preparatory Level in Computer Science is open exclusively to students holding an HSG bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BBWL), Economics (BVWL), International Affairs (BIA), Law (BLaw), or Law and Economics (BLE). Students from other universities are not eligible.
Your bachelor's degree must be fully completed — including the submission of your bachelor's thesis — before you can enrol. It is not possible to complete the two programmes in parallel. However, if preparatory level courses are open for bidding during your final bachelor's semester, you may take them as free electives and they will be recognised automatically once you are enrolled in the MCS.
Enrolment works in two steps. First, you register for the Master in Computer Science in Compass. Second, you submit a request for a programme change to the Master's Preparatory Level in Computer Science, also in Compass. Find additional information about the programm change here.
Once enrolled, you register for preparatory level courses each semester via the regular bidding process. Please note that MCS master-level courses cannot be taken until the Master's Preparatory Level in Computer Science has been fully and successfully completed. Until then, the master's programme remains on hold.

Previously de-registered from HSG:
Students who have previously de-registered from HSG must re-enrol via Compass. From Spring Semester 2027 onwards, re-enrolment will take place via the new HSG online platform Orbit. Re-enrolment is open from 1 May to 30 June for an autumn semester start, and from 1 October to 30 November for a spring semester start. A processing fee of CHF 268 applies. We strongly recommend starting in the autumn semester. The four autumn semester courses form the foundation for the spring semester courses, and starting in spring means you will not be able to follow the intended course sequence.
During the Master's Preparatory Level, master-level tuition fees apply. The preparatory level semesters count towards the maximum study duration of 8 semesters of the MCS. For an overview of current tuition fees, please refer to the HSG fee schedule.
The Master's Preparatory Level in Computer Science must be fully and successfully completed before you can begin taking MCS master-level courses. The following conditions must all be met for the preparatory level to be considered passed:
If the preparatory level is not passed on the first attempt, a second attempt is permitted. Credits from the first attempt can be carried over, meaning only failed courses need to be repeated. After two unsuccessful attempts, continuation in the MCS is no longer possible.
Please note that the semesters spent completing the Master's Preparatory Level count towards the maximum study duration of 8 semesters of the MCS. We therefore recommend completing the preparatory level within two semesters where possible.
