Appointment: Thomaz Teodorovicz

Prof. Dr. Thomaz Teodorovicz joins HSG from the Copenhagen Business School, where he held the CBS Executive Foundation chair as an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Innovation. He is an expert on “Strategic Management for the Public Interest,” the study and practice of how private and public organizations can achieve superior performance while addressing pressing societal challenges.

Following a fellowship at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, he obtained a PhD degree in Business Economics from the Insper Institute of Education and Research in 2019. He also holds degrees in Economics (BA 2012) and Public Policy (MA 2015) from the Federal University of Paraná. Beyond his academic degrees, he has obtained extensive international experience via a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard Business School, and visiting appointments at INSEAD, Bocconi University, and HEC Paris.

Research into strategies for competitive advantage with a social impact

Prof. Dr. Thomaz Teodorovicz conducts research to understand how organizations’ governance and structures shape their ability to implement practices, adopt new technologies, manage distinct stakeholder groups, and develop strategies to combine economic performance with societal impact. Ultimately, his research aims at supporting for-profit firms, nonprofits, public organizations, and public-private collaborations in leveraging the economic opportunities that exist in markets for resolving societal challenges.

His research has been published in leading management journals such as the "Strategic Management Journal," "Organization Science," and the “Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.” For his research, he has received multiple recognitions at the Strategic Management Society Annual Conference, and the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management.

Extensive experience connecting research, practice, and teaching

Prof. Dr. Thomaz Teodorovicz has experience connecting his research to practice and teaching. He has engaged in academic consulting to leverage private-sector action for the public interest via projects with multilateral organizations (e.g., the International Finance Corporation, UNICEF, the Inter-American Development Bank), private firms, and state agencies. He brings this knowledge to the classroom, where he has taught masters students, MBAs, and executive education, including receiving teaching awards for his performance.
