New ways to study abroad.

With Freemover also beyond HSG partner network.

Freemover

The Freemover programme complements HSG’s global exchange opportunities and offers HSG students additional options for spending a semester abroad at recognised universities outside the partner network.

Programme Overview

Here you will find the key information about the Freemover programme, including the requirements, choice of university and costs.

Exchanges in Spring:

01 July until Thursday, calendar week 46 (16.00 St.Gallen)

Exchanges in Fall:

01 February until Thursday, calendar week 24, (16.00 St.Gallen)

Applications are only possible within the respective official application period.

Detailed information on the application process as well as access to the application portal is published in the StudentWeb.

With the Freemover programme, HSG students can spend one to two semesters per study level at a suitable university outside the HSG partner network.

  • Approval: Prior approval by Student Mobility Services is required for a Freemover exchange.
  • Application: The request for a Freemover exchange must be submitted within the official application period. Afterwards, students apply directly to the host university in accordance with its application procedure and deadlines.
  • Admission: Participation requires both approval by Student Mobility Services and admission by the host university.
  • Choice of university: A Freemover exchange is not possible at universities with which HSG already has an exchange agreement at the same study level.
  • Costs: A reduced HSG semester fee applies during the Freemover exchange. In addition, students must pay the host university’s tuition fees as well as travel, accommodation, insurance, meals and other personal expenses.

Detailed information for enrolled students is available in the StudentWeb.

The following basic academic requirements apply for participation in the Freemover programme:

  • Bachelor’s level: At the time of application, students must be enrolled in an HSG Bachelor’s programme and must have successfully completed the Assessment Year. An exchange is possible from the 4th semester of the Bachelor’s programme at the earliest.
  • Master’s level: At the time of application, students must be enrolled in an HSG Master’s programme and must have successfully completed their Bachelor’s studies. An exchange is generally possible from the 2nd semester of the Master’s programme at the earliest.

Please note: In addition to HSG’s requirements, the application and admission requirements of the respective host university must also be fulfilled. The host university determines its own academic, language and formal requirements as well as its application deadlines. Depending on the university, specific academic achievements, language skills or language certificates may be required.

Detailed information on the application requirements and conditions for enrolled HSG students is available in the StudentWeb.

The Freemover University Portal supports students in finding a suitable host university. It includes universities that have already been reviewed and recognised by HSG.

The overview is not exhaustive: other universities may also be considered for a Freemover exchange and can be reviewed for recognition.

Whether an exchange at a particular university is possible depends, among other things, on its current admission requirements, course offerings and other general conditions.

Please note: Universities with which HSG already has an exchange agreement at the same study level cannot be selected within the Freemover programme.
