This year, OFFA St.Gallen invites visitors to discover the cultural and culinary offerings of St.Gallen and the region from April 19 to 23, 2023. Visitors can find out more about HSG's public offerings at the University of St.Gallen stand. We look forward to welcoming you in Olma Hall 3.1, Stand 3.1.16!
The public lectures were held for the first time in 1898 and are an integral part of the events offered by HSG. In the lectures, listeners experience the diversity of subjects that characterize teaching and research found there. Topics areas range from economics, law, politics and computer science to language, literature, history, society and theology. Visitors also learn more about the city and region. The public lecture programme changes every six months and began on February 20, coinciding with the anniversary year "125 Years HSG" programme.
During the anniversary year, thematic guided tours will continue to take place, which are dedicated to the history of HSG and its relationship to the city and canton. On May 13, the university invites you to the traditional birthday celebration "Dies academicus". On the same day, two additional events will be organized this year: Starting as early as 8 a.m., those interested will get the chance to learn more about the university's history at "HSG forscht! What? How? What for?" in SQUARE will provide in-depth insights into scientific work at HSG. In addition, the vernissage of the anniversary commemorative publication will take place in the afternoon at the same location.
At the booth, attention is also drawn to the 57th national competition of the foundation "Schweizer Jugend forscht" (Swiss Youth Researches), which takes place in the same week as OFFA at SQUARE. Over 100 young scientists from all over Switzerland, aged 16 to 23, have spent a year working on their projects. The public is also cordially invited to the exhibitions of the projects on Friday, April 21, 2 to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 22, 9 a.m. to noon.
In 2003, HSG was the first Swiss university to launch Children's University. The program introduces students from the third grade onwards to socially relevant topics in an entertaining and stimulating way as a supplement to the school curriculum. This fall, HSG is once again opening its doors to school children. This year's four Children's University lectures on November 8, 15, 22 and 29 will revolve around artificial intelligence, show what teamwork is all about, how robots solve school assignments, and give a glimpse into the world of crime.
While the Children's University belongs to the children, the University library offers all generations the possibility of borrowing, research and consultation. Twice a year, the library also invites the public to read "The Other Book at the University". The reading series provides a stage for new publications with a connection to Switzerland.
An application from HSG's Behavioral Lab can also be tested at the booth. Visitors can have their own facial expressions analysed by "Facial Coding." The technical application measures facial expressions via a webcam and automatically recognizes the corresponding emotions.
