What makes a university attractive to students? To find out, the market research firm Universum surveyed a total of 816 students at HSG between February and June 2026. 78 per cent of those surveyed would choose HSG again. Overall, satisfaction levels amongst HSG students are higher than the Swiss average when compared with other universities.
Universum surveys students at more than 2,200 universities, as well as alumni and professional associations, in 20 countries every year. The survey focuses on perceptions of universities and students’ career plans.
Good job prospects are therefore also an important factor in how students rate HSG: 73 per cent see their degree as a ‘good reference for their future career or further education’.
This assessment by students is also supported by a recent analysis by the Federal Statistical Office: according to this, one year after graduation, the Swiss-wide average was 8.5 per cent of Master’s graduates from 2024 who were still unemployed. Among HSG Master’s graduates, however, the figure was just 2.7 per cent. This also demonstrates how well HSG prepares its graduates for the start of their careers: based on the results of the HSG’s latest survey, Universum has awarded the university the ‘Outstanding Employability’ label.
HSG students also make use of the university’s career support services more frequently than average. At the same time, students rate these services particularly highly: with a score of 7.7 out of 10, HSG achieves the highest satisfaction rating in a national comparison.
The services offered at HSG include career and job fairs, a job portal, career counselling and matchmaking between companies and students. At HSG, Career & Corporate Services is responsible for these services.
As the survey shows, the university’s culture plays an important role alongside career opportunities. Students associate HSG in particular with an open environment, internationality and engagement with societal change. They also value HSG’s international reputation, high-quality programmes and the network of successful HSG alumni.
HSG students themselves also frequently describe themselves as ambitious and proactive. Around half are involved in activities outside their studies, are keen to take on responsibility and pursue clear goals. Around 30 per cent fit a profile characterised by an entrepreneurial and technology-oriented mindset, whilst a further 28 per cent fit a profile strongly focused on performance and results. Both groups are more strongly represented at HSG than at other universities.
