7 December 2009. The Financial Times has published its 2009 ranking of the best European business schools. In the 2009 ranking, the University of St.Gallen occupies 30th place among Europe’s 70 leading institutions and has been able to retain the position it held last year despite the higher number of participants (2008: 65).
HEC at the top
The European Business School Ranking is again headed by HEC Paris, the London Business School and INSEAD. The English-language IMD in Lausanne, the only other institution from Switzerland, comes 4th; 5th place is occupied by the IE Business School in Madrid.
If only the institutions from the German-speaking area are taken into consideration, then the University of St.Gallen is runner-up behind Mannheim University (26th place). The Vienna University of Economics and Business occupies 34th place, and Cologne University comes 59th.
MBA participating soon
The European Business School Ranking is based on the results of the individual rankings published in the course of 2009 (Executive Education Ranking, EMBA Ranking, MBA Ranking, Masters in Management Ranking). To date, the HSG has been unable to participate in the MBA Ranking and the Masters in Management Ranking (first Master’s degree) on account of the FT’s rules since the graduates of those programs have not yet been on the market for three years.
This automatically results in reductions in the overall assessment of the European Business School Ranking. As soon as participation is possible, the relevant St.Gallen programs will also enter the lists, so that a higher position in the overall ranking may be expected.
