1 February 2010. The financial and economic crisis has made it clear that profound knowledge is in greater demand than ever in the media. The University of St.Gallen (HSG) intends to increase competence in this field and contribute to a higher degree of understanding in the general public through a new course in business journalism.

The increasing complexity of economic issues calls for well-founded knowledge, which is what graduates of purely journalistic courses do not have as a rule.

Journalistic competencies
Economic students of the HSG possess this knowledge and, by obtaining this additional qualification, can acquire the journalistic competencies necessary to convey it professionally to a wider public.

Response to an increasing demand
With this new course, the University of St.Gallen is responding to an increasing demand for qualified freelance business journalists. The online range of reports on the economy is on the increase, as is the tendency to outsource the production of information.
