Research on past and present conditions of expertise is combined at the Chair of General History with activities in scientific advisory boards and advisory committees. Caspar Hirschi is an expert on the Science Advisory Panel on Covid 19 for the Swiss Confederation and the Cantons, a member of the board of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Evaluation Committee of the German Science Council, an scientific advisor to the Science Media Center Germany, the think tank Reatch and NZZ Geschichte. He co-authored an expert report for the Swiss Science Council on scientific policy advice in recent crises and has served on several expert panels to improve university career paths in Germany and Switzerland.
