Welcome to the Study Guidance of the University of St.Gallen

The Study Guidance is a reliable guide and orientation aid for students and future students of the University of St.Gallen. The planning and organization as well as the course of studies can be confusing and raise many questions. The Study Guidance service offers you individual counseling regarding your studies and directs you to the appropriate departments for specific concerns. We provide orientation, provide information and are available to help you clarify your general questions about your studies and provide you with clarity. Please note that the Study Guidance does not answer questions about admission. Please contact the Admissions and Crediting Office directly (admissionsunisg.ch).

Our offer

Our goal is to provide you with the best possible support during your time at the University of St.Gallen. Be it that you are at the beginning of your studies and have questions about choosing a major or course selection, that your studies do not quite meet your expectations, or that you have failed exams and are thinking about reorientation. We can help you structure your thoughts, open up new perspectives, and bring clarity to your questions. 

The Study Guidance service offers personal on-site consultations. We counsel you on your individual study situation and offer you help to help yourself so that you can organise and plan your studies on your own. The Study Guidance service is an advisory service for all those who are beginning or have already begun their studies at the University of St.Gallen - personal, confidential and uncomplicated.

Choosing the right degree program is one of the most important decisions for students, and one that often involves a great deal of uncertainty. We support you in choosing the appropriate degree program that suits your interests and goals best.

Likewise, we support you in structuring your thoughts and providing clarity if the chosen degree program does not meet your expectations after all or if you do not feel comfortable at the University of St.Gallen and are thinking about changing your degree program or university.

Find the right office

If you are looking for specific information or support from other specialized offices at the University of St.Gallen, our glossary is the right place for you. The University of St.Gallen has a wide range of specific counseling and specialized offices for all questions related to studying.

We are your point of contact when it comes to administrative matters concerning your studies:

Special confirmations, duplicates, certifications of grade transcripts, legitimation cards, etc., which you cannot print out yourself, can be obtained from us by advance order.

The PhD Office is responsible for all administrative issues related to your doctoral studies, from course registration to grade verifications, various confirmations, submission of the preliminary study and dissertation, and graduation.

The Student Mobility Services team is available to answer your questions about your exchange semester at a partner university, Asia and Latam Term, Swiss Mobility, ECOL Virtual Courses, Freemover, and THEMIS.

We advise, inform and raise awareness on all issues relating to the equal distribution of opportunities. This includes studies, work, academic careers, appointments to university management positions and the compatibility of studies, career and family/private life.

The independent whistleblowing office can be contacted in the event of suspected unlawful acts or unfair behavior.

Employees of the HSG and its institutes and research units, students and external partners can use the whistleblowing office to report suspected or actual violations.

Reports can be submitted by e-mail, by letter or in a personal conversation. An electronic reporting system is also available. This offers the possibility of an anonymous, protected dialog via an HSG-external server.

The Military Service Office is open to students for questions relating to military, civil protection or civilian service.

The aim of the Ombuds Office is to resolve conflicts and difficult situations informally. Together with the ombudsperson, ways are sought in which problems can be dealt with and clarified, an amicable settlement can be found or targeted measures can be introduced before the conflict escalates. The discussions are confidential.

We are IT-interested students who are happy to support other students with their concerns.

You are welcome to come to our office in person (01-U207; Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00) or to the library next to the research advice desk (Mon-Fri 12:00-18:00), write us an e-mail or contact us via MS Teams. The tutors are present in person during the semester and during semester breaks. During the semester break, we can be contacted sporadically by e-mail.

Psychological Counseling Service
We offer students and staff psychological counseling and professional support in personal, study-related and professional stress situations or crises.

Our university chaplains work full-time in the areas of pastoral care, spirituality and teaching at the university. Their services are available to university members, alumni and people close to the university - this also applies in particular to religious services (e.g. baptisms, weddings). In addition, the chaplains play an important bridging role between the university and the church and represent the concerns of the university in numerous non-university committees and organizations.

The Service Center Entrepreneurship & Innovation is the point of contact for students at the University of St.Gallen for questions relating to entrepreneurship. We offer advice and support for Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students and assist them in their startup activities. Our services include the University of St.Gallen's incubator, Startup@HSG, with which we support students from the initial idea to the implementation of their startup project with coaching, events and financial grants.

Our aim is to support and promote the personal development of students during the challenging time of the assessment year along four interdisciplinary competencies.

The Coaching-Program of the University of St.Gallen is an optional additional offer for students in the assessment year and has no influence on the grading and passing of the assessment year.

HSG Alumni is the alumni organization of the University of St.Gallen. With around 33,000 members, we are one of the most important and active alumni associations in Europe. With us, you can stay in touch with your fellow students, make new contacts and benefit from a range of over 350 interesting events per year - also online - as well as other great services.

The Mentoring-Program supports Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students in their personal and professional development. We bring experienced people (mentors) together with students (mentees) to exchange ideas and learn from each other. The program promotes career guidance, self-confidence and network building to help students prepare for their future careers.

We are the official representation of students at the University of St.Gallen and act as an umbrella organization for student involvement. Our role includes the representation of interests towards the university as well as the coordination of over 120 student associations. The SHSG is actively involved in the further development of the university, the improvement of teaching, campus design and the expansion of cultural leisure activities for students. Our most important bodies are the Executive Board and the Student Parliament, which together are responsible for the strategic direction and operational management of the SHSG.
