In the winter semester of 2003/04, we were the first university in Switzerland to launch a Children's University. The topic at the time was: "Where does the money come from?" Our children's lectures are held by full professors from our university. The topics range from business administration to economics to law.
In our children's lectures, we address everyday situations and examples in the children's environment. The independent individual lectures from different subject areas enable the children to follow the lectures even if they can only attend for one afternoon. Admission to our children's lectures is free, but registration is required.
The idea of the Children's University is to give children an understanding of socially relevant topics in addition to what they learn at school and to encourage them to think critically. Furthermore, children – regardless of whether they will ever attend university later on - should be familiarised with a higher educational institution; especially those from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
Admission to our Children's University is free, but registration is necessary. Every child receives an HSGcard. At the end of the lecture series, all pupils who have attended each event will receive a certificate of attendance.
All lectures will take place from 3 to 3.45 p.m. (doors open at 2.30 p.m.).
