On the HSG Advisory Board, 14 personalities, including seven alumnae and alumni, are committed to fostering the strategic development of the University of St.Gallen (HSG) on a voluntary basis. With their backgrounds in business, academia and civil society, the Advisory Board members represent thought and practice leadership. As a sounding board for the university leadership, they reflect on relevant HSG projects from an external, both national and international perspective, and enrich the strategy process with valuable impulses. They stimulate innovations in research, teaching and practice transfer.
The critical and constructive support by the Advisory Board contributes to tackling the challenges facing HSG as a regionally anchored and internationally oriented business university. This close connection to business and civil society benefits not least our students, for whom HSG opens up attractive careers.
The Advisory Board meets twice a year. For the term of office from 2024-2026, the Advisory Board members are appointed by the University Council on the recommendation of the Rector and the President of HSG Alumni.

Since 2007, the University of St.Gallen (HSG) is supported by an honorary advisory committee, the HSG Advisory Board with respect to strategic questions and future-orientated projects of the university.
The “Honorary Advisory Board” is chosen by the University Council. The members being personalities from industry and academia strengthen the competencies of the University with their different professional and private backgrounds, with respect to a dialogue with the private sector, the public sector and non-profit-organisations; moreover, they make knowledge sources external to the University accessible to the HSG. From January 2018 to December 2020, 19 international Advisory Board members will be active for the University of St.Gallen, delivering momentum for its future development and with it for the development of the educational and business location of Switzerland. The Advisory Board members who convene twice per year on the St.Gallen campus, constitute the third Advisory Board since its establishment in the year 2007.
The Advisory Board members are active in diverse business sectors: including industry and trade, real estate, banking and insurance, as well as the areas of education and research. These professional competencies, in combination with national and international experience, are an enrichment for the entire University. In this way, the Advisory Board was able to give essential impulses for a successful organisational development: The introduction of English-language Bachelor and Master programmes, the development of international hubs (HSG-hubs), the targeted advancement of entrepreneurship as well as a precision of the HSG research profiles are results of the commitment of the HSG Advisory Board members. Together with the representatives of the University, the Advisory Board Members face the challenges of a 21st century business school with international and regional roots.

In 2007, the HSG Alumni Advisory Board was first called into existence by Rector Professor Ernst Mohr and HSG Alumni President Dr. Urs Landolf.
The first Board constituted 14 personalities from business, politics and civil society. 12 of them were Alumnae and Alumni of the University of St.Gallen. Furthermore, four additional members participated in an ex officio capacity. The goal of the Advisory Board was the provision of an external view of the university’s strategy (sounding board) and the implementation of concrete projects in the context of the “Vision 2010”. The Board’s focus was on the promotion of entrepreneurship at university and the intensification of the HSG’s internationalization strategy. After the official three-year term had ended, the HSG Alumni Advisory Board was dissolved in autumn 2010.
The HSG Alumni Advisory Board strengthened the university's entrepreneurial basis by initiating an extra-curricular entrepreneurship education programme. The HSG Alumni Advisory Board strived to bolster entrepreneurial spirit in the sense of an integrative and holistic management approach, be it amongst employees, academics or students.
The HSG Alumni Advisory Board realised innovative projects that strengthen our international profile. The aim was to attract international students, researchers and teaching staff.
