Meet the CFO #11 with Benjamin Adrion | Viva con Agua
Professional footballer, social entrepreneur, Federal Cross of Merit recipient, winner of an ARD quiz show: what sounds like a German remake of Forrest Gump is actually the biography of Benjamin Adrion. As the son of a former football player and coach, Benny was practically born into the game. His sporting career, which he ended in 2008 at the age of just 27, took him from VfB Stuttgart via Eintracht Braunschweig to FC St. Pauli. But while the end of a career as a professional footballer is for many also a career end in the truest sense of the word, Benny devoted himself to his second great passion, social entrepreneurship. Back in 2006, he founded the organisation "Viva con Agua", which campaigns for safe access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation. In the meantime, Viva con Agua employs 39 people and was able to invest more than EUR 3.6 million in social projects in 2020. How did Viva con Agua become such a large social enterprise? How does one come to have such an unusual life path as Benny? And why is it so important that high wages and social work should not be mutually exclusive?
