Since Donald J. Trump's inauguration, the US and the world seem to be in a state of feverish excitement. Never before has every official act of a president been so meticulously reported as in the case of Trump. At the same time, the media is outdoing itself with dystopian future scenarios. But how much credence should be given to those who predicted that Kamala Harris would win the election? The German-language media are also finding it difficult to take the pulse of America and convey to the public how (differently) the country is ticking. In this episode, we discuss why this is the case with Peter Hossli.
At the age of 29, Peter Hossli moved to New York to establish himself as a freelance journalist. Since then, he has reported from 48 states, witnessed 9/11 first hand, and constantly explored new approaches to this country that never lets him go. Since returning to Switzerland, he has written two books: "Die erste Miete ging an die Mafia" (2018), about his life as a reporter, and "Revolverchuchi: Mordfall Stadelmann" (2022), about one of the most gruesome crimes in Swiss history. In addition to his own journalistic work, he teaches his craft as director of the Ringier School of Journalism and produces the podcast '1776' about the USA with Nicoletta Cimmino.
