Taste of inventiveness at MINI

For the first time ever, the Center for Innovation of the University of St.Gallen (CFI-HSG) is offering 30 Swiss cantonal school students a project week with the car producer MINI in Munich from 23-28 August 2009.

17 August 2009. In the Business Innovation Camp, the 16-18 year-old students will work on issues derived from MINI’s corporate practice as marketing strategists. The pilot project is supported by the UBS Foundation for Social Issues and Education.

Inventiveness play subordinate part in the curricula
Innovation and entrepreneurship play a key role in economic growth and the preservation of prosperity in Switzerland. Nevertheless, the topics of inventiveness and entrepreneurial thinking still play a subordinate part in the curricula of schools in the German-speaking area.

In order to compensate for this deficit, the Center for Innovation of the University of St.Gallen and the UBS Foundation for Social Issues and Education launched the “Business Innovation Lab” initiative. The project week will focus on a case study about the “electric car”: a product that is fun to drive but is sustainable at the same time.

Working out proposals for solutions
Under the supervision of teachers and managers, the student group will work out proposals for solutions, which they will finally submit to an interdisciplinary jury. The yardsticks applied will include the substantial quality, implementability and creativity of solutions, as well as the quality of cooperation in the teams.
