Lecture series about regulation

16 February 2009. Various players will interact in this lecture series at the University of St.Gallen to throw light on the question of the “appropriate” or optimal regulation of financial markets. The present crisis reveals either past misregulations or a lack of surveillance.

Regulatory framework in a liberal economic system
What, however, does this mean for the regulatory framework of a liberal economic system which seemed to bring about unprecedented prosperity in the past decades?

In the course of the semester, the six speakers in this lecture series will present differing views: those of the finance industry, central banks, regulatory authorities, and academia. Besides Dr. Konrad Hummler, they include Leonhard Fischer, CEO of RHJ International, Prof. Dr. Martin Hellwig, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, Bonn, Malcolm Knight, Vice Chairman, Deutsche Bank and former General Manager of the BIS, as well as Prof. Geoffrey P. Miller, Director of the Center for the Study of Central Banks, New York University.
