8 December 2009. In 2009, the Financial Times ranked the CEMS Master’s in International Management (CEMS MIM) as the world’s Number One of all the Master of Science in Management programs. The University of St.Gallen (HSG) has been a member of CEMS since 1989 and has made a significant contribution to this result as a part of this alliance of 28 world-leading business schools and more than 58 multinational companies.
On the occasion of the CEMS Annual Event in Cologne on 3 December 2009, the prize of "CEMS School of the Year 2009" was awarded for the first time. The recipient of this award was the HSG. The prize was accepted by Dr. Jürgen Brücker, the Academic Director of CEMS at the University of St.Gallen.
In addition, Brücker was also awarded a prize in his capacity as the university teacher of the best CEMS business project of the year in cooperation with ABB.
Outstanding academic quality at the HSG
The outstanding elements of the internal CEMS evaluation are the academic quality at the HSG, of the CEMS core courses, the skill seminars and the business projects. The administrative quality with its flow of information and the support quality provided by the HSG CEMS Office, represented by Diana Brunner and Jacqueline Meier, were accorded special mention.
According to Jürgen Brücker, the reasons for the particularly good results of the CEMS MIM at the HSG and for its overall impact on the network as a whole are evident: "This is the outcome of the course set by the HSG management for CEMS, the faculty’s and administration’s high degree of identification with the CEMS network, as well as the commitment shown by students, the Student Union and the Alumni, but particularly also the excellent and mutually fertilizing cooperation with the corporate partners."
Create a global standard
CEMS – The Global Alliance in Management Education – is a strategic alliance of Europe’s leading business schools and multinational companies. It aims to create a global standard for Master in Management programs in the field of first-degree education. CEMS was established in 1988.
The alliance has been steadily growing ever since and now consists of 28 academic members – 25 full-time members in Europe and three associated institutions from all over the world – which together with more than 58 companies offer an international Master’s program of the highest academic quality and unique practical experience: the CEMS MIM. The CEMS MIM program has occupied a top position in the Financial Times Master’s Ranking for years.
