The exhibition “Circle of Water. Textiles in Flux” at the Textile Museum St.Gallen provides insights into the multifaceted world of swimwear and outdoor fashion from a sustainability perspective. It highlights the close connection between textile production and water as a resource. Visitors can explore the fashion industry's impact on water and learn how sustainable innovations in the production of swimwear and outdoor fashion can protect water.

Bikinis made from PET bottles and cell phone covers made from ski boots

At the center of the exhibition are materials and techniques that prove that fashion can be designed to be environmentally and water friendly. In collaboration with the Circular Lab at the University of St.Gallen and various Swiss textile companies, innovative products are presented – from bikinis and ski suits made from recycled PET bottles to biodegradable rain jackets and cell phone covers made from old ski boots. The exhibition shows how modern circular economy can help to make the future of fashion more sustainable while protecting the vital resource of water.

The Circular Lab, located at the University of St.Gallen, is an innovation center for the development and establishment of a sustainable circular economy in the Lake Constance region. In the Circular Lab, researchers and practitioners from six universities in Switzerland, Austria and Germany work together with a wide range of companies. Among them are Freitag lab.ag, Bernina, Everve and Verdunova. With a particular focus on the textile and food industries, the Circular Lab develops circular solutions designed to create ecological and economic added value. To this end, research is being conducted into how companies need to adapt practices, strategies and business models in order to establish a truly sustainable circular economy.
