CEMS Annual Events in St.Gallen

The CEMS network of international business universities, enterprises and NGOs will hold its Annual Events 2012 in St.Gallen from 26 November to 2 December. 2,000 guests from all over the world are expected to participate.

19 November 2012. On Friday, 30 November at 2.30 p.m., a public panel discussion on “Responsible Leadership” will take place in the HSG Audimax, with the former Federal Councillor Ruth Metzler taking part. The panel discussion will be open not only to registered participants in the CEMS Annual Events but to anyone interested in attending. Specifically, the discussion will examine the questions of what skills and moral values leaders should have and the extent to which such skills can be taught. Ruth Metzler will be joined in the discussion by Gary Steel (Global Human Resources Director and member of the Executive Board, ABB), Robert Glasser (CEO of NGO Care International), Nannette Hechler-Fayd’herbe (Managing Director, Credit Suisse), Thomas Bieger (HSG President and CEMS Chairman) and Heike Bruch (HSG Professor of Management with special focus on Leadership). The discussion will be conducted in English. Swiss TV newsreader Florian Inhauser will be in the chair.

Outings into the city and the region
The approx. 2,000 guests who will arrive in St.Gallen in the week of 26 November will meet for a number of CEMS-internal events. In the process, they are also intended to receive an impression of the City of St.Gallen and Eastern Switzerland. In cooperation with St.Gallen-Lake Constance Tourism, the Organising Committee of the HSG has set up guided tours of the city, visits to museums and the Abbey Library, as well as outings into the region, for which the guests will be able to register. Practically all hotel rooms in St.Gallen and surroundings have been booked by guests from home and abroad for the duration of the CEMS Annual Events 2012. The event takes place in a different CEMS partner’s location every year. The Annual Events were last staged in Eastern Switzerland in 1995. Now they will be taking place in St.Gallen for the second time.

Degree certificates at the end
CEMS is a network of 28 leading business universities on four continents and more than 70 globally operating enterprises and NGOs. The HSG has been a member since 1989. CEMS was set up in 1988 and offers an internationally renowned degree course, the Master in International Management (CEMS MIM), which conveys theory, practice and intercultural competence. The CEMS MIM has been classed as one of the three best courses in the Master’s programme ranking of the Financial Times ever since 2009. Students complete it in addition to the Master’s programme they are engaged in at their own universities. They pursue their studies at one of the partner universities in another country. In addition, they must produce evidence of proficiency in two foreign languages and of an internship of at least ten weeks’ duration in a foreign country. On Saturday, 1 December, about 600 graduates of the CEMS MIM from all over the world will be awarded their degree certificates in St.Gallen’s Olma Halls.
