From 2001 to 2008, Prof. Dr. Vesa Pursiainen completed his Master's degree in Technology at the Helsinki University of Technology (now part of Aalto University). He also completed his Master's degree in Economics and Business Administration at the Helsinki School of Economics from 2003 to 2008. He then worked in London as an investment banker at J.P. Morgan and as an investment professional at Oaktree Capital Management.
In 2015, he began his doctoral studies at the University of Hong Kong. In spring 2020, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled ‘Essays on Behavioral Finance’. From 1 September 2020, he was an assistant professor at the School of Finance at the University of St.Gallen (since 1 August 2021 with tenure track). Prior to that, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Zurich for one year and a visiting researcher at Imperial College London between September 2018 and August 2019.
Prof. Dr. Vesa Pursiainen's research focuses on behavioural finance, corporate finance, entrepreneurial finance, financial intermediation, and fintech. His work has been published in numerous top journals, including the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Science Advances, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Intermediation, and many others. As Associate Professor, he will also take over programme management as Director of the Financial Technology Certificate Programme.
