Appointment: Nina Reiser

Prof. Dr. Nina Reiser has been appointed Associate Professor of Financial Market Law at the University of St.Gallen as of 1 August 2022.

1 August 2022.  Prof. Dr. Nina Reiser successfully completed her law degree at the University of Zurich and the Universidad Pública de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, in 2006. In 2009, she was admitted to the bar of the Canton of Zurich. After that, she received her doctorate (summa cum laude) at the University of Zurich in 2012. The title of her dissertation is “Fahrlässiger Irrtum nach Art. 26 OR” (Error by Negligence According to Art. 26 CO). During her stay as visiting researcher for the preparation of her postdoctoral qualification at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, she completed postgraduate studies (Master of Laws, LL.M.) in 2013. In 2017, she was appointed “Privatdozentin” (PD, venia legendi for private and business law) at the University of Zurich. The title of her postdoctoral thesis, which was supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation, is “Durchsetzung heterogener börsengesellschaftsrechtlicher Normen” (Enforcement of Heterogenous Regulation of Listed Companies). She has also been a professor of private and business law at Kalaidos Law School, Zurich, since 2018.

Several years of practical experience at the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA

Prof. Dr. Nina Reiser held various management and project management positions at the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA from 2015 until her appointment at the University of St. Gallen, most recently as Group Manager “Authorizations” in the banks division. 

Research on financial market and company law

Prof. Dr. Nina Reiser’s research focuses intensively on financial market and company law. In doing so, she combines basic research with practical insights from her work at FINMA. Prof. Dr. Nina Reiser is interested in questions that arise in connection with new authorizations and authorization amendments of banks and securities firms, for example in connection with the implementation of the Federal Act on Financial Institutions and regarding corporate governance. In view of the technological and legislative developments as well as the extensive consolidation to be expected, her field of research will continue to gain in relevance. Another focus of her research agenda is company law and the interface between company and financial market law, as well as interdisciplinary issues with economics. 

Extensive teaching experience

Prof. Dr. Nina Olga Reiser has extensive teaching experience at Bachelor's and Master's level in the areas of capital market, contract, commercial and company law as well as in the Executive area in the CAS programmes Compliance Management and Financial Regulation. Her work at FINMA allows her to bridge the gap between theory and practice at the newly established HSG Center for Financial Services Innovation (FSI-HSG).
