9,879 students at the University of St.Gallen (HSG)

In December, HSG published its enrolment statistics. These show that in the autumn semester of 2024, 9,879 students from 101 countries were enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (previous year: 9,670). You will find further figures below.

A total of 2,208 students (previous year: 1,900) are enrolled in the Assessment Year, the entry level at HSG. There are 3,258 (3,419) students at the Bachelor's level. 3,801 (3,733) students are enrolled at the Master's level; 568 (578) are studying for a doctorate. A further 44 (40) students are taking additional courses. The overall percentage of women is 35.0 (35.2).

Enrolment statistics 2024

Among the home cantons (place of residence when the matriculation requirement was obtained) of the students, Zurich is the most strongly represented with 1422 (1397). The Canton of St.Gallen is in second place with 1099 (1035) students, followed by the Canton of Thurgau with 439 (421). 111 (109) students from Appenzell Ausserrhoden and 40 (32) from Appenzell Innerrhoden are studying at HSG. 

The largest group among foreign students (place of residence at the time of acquiring the university entrance qualification) comes from German-speaking countries: 1,671 (1,695) students come from Germany, 292 (281) from Austria and 78 (76) from Liechtenstein. There are also large groups of students from Italy (209; 174), France (126; 118), China (79; 81), the USA (57; 59), Singapore (56; 57), India (39; 38), Norway (35; 26), United Kingdom (33; 29), Brazil (30; 28), Spain (29; 29), Sweden (27; 17) and Ukraine (27; 32).
