24 May 2013 The 4th University of St. Gallen (HSG) Forum for the Management of Renewable Energy took place this week.  Focused on this year’s topic “Renewables – From Vision to Value”, the conference discussed all major sources of renewable energy and the market opportunities arising from their development.  The forum was held in conjunction with the ENERGIE congress and exhibition held at Halle 9 in the Olma Messe St. Gallen from May 22nd to 24th.

The program featured opening remarks from Professor Dr. Rolf Wüstenhagen from the HSG’s Institute for Economy and the Environment. He stressed the importance of renewable energy and cited Germany and Switzerland’s commitment to make renewable energy an increasing percentage of its overall energy usage. Along with the recent news that concentrations of carbon dioxide have dangerously risen above 400 parts per million for the first time in human history, and the clean-up from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster continuing to rise, there has never been a better time to make the case for renewable energy management.

Other discussions at the conference included:

  • M2M solutions in the energy market - implementation through the example of a virtual power plant
  • "Sunrise in the East, Sunset in the West - which future for European solar firms?"
  • The future of smart grids
  • A plan to power the world for all purposes with wind, water, and the sun
