Appointment: David Preinerstorfer

Starting with 1 August 2021, Prof. David Preinerstorfer holds the position of Associate Professor for Econometrics at the University of St.Gallen.

1 August 2021. In 2010, Prof. Dr. David Preinerstorfer graduated with a Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Vienna. He also completed a Master’s Degree in Statistics at the University of Vienna in 2011, and then began his PhD thesis in Statistics and Operations Research. He defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Autocorrelation robust testing in time series regression models” in 2015, which was followed by post-doctoral activities at the University of Vienna and Aarhus University, before being appointed Assistant Professor in Econometrics at the Université libre de Bruxelles in 2017..

Research in the field of machine learning and big data

The research of Prof. Dr. David Preinerstorfer deals with various methodological aspects of causal machine learning (and big data), a new field of Econometrics that has developed immensely in recent years. In the specific area in which Prof. Dr. David Preinerstorfer conducts research, the focus is on optimal decision-making in the context of discrete decision options and heterogeneous effects. Developing statistical methods for such problems is relevant both in the private sector (e.g., investment decisions) as well as for governments (e.g., for optimal policy selection). He has published articles in the leading Statistics journals, such as the Journal of the American Statistical Society and the Annals of Statistics as well as one of the top journals in Economics, Econometrica.

Lectures in the field of data analytics

Prof. Dr. David Preinerstorfer will give his lectures in the field of empirical data analysis (data analytics) – both in methodological and application-oriented courses. He has extensive teaching experience in these areas at all levels.
