Although we, the HSG Library, try to provide a comprehensive access to the academic journals needed for studying, teaching and research, there are not always sufficient funds to license all journal titles or all volumes.
If you cannot find an electronic full text of an article in the HSG library, there are often alternative ways for you to obtain journal articles, usually free of charge. Below you will find an overview of these alternatives:
In HSGswisscovery, use the search profile “swisscovery” and search for the journal title in all participating 500 Swiss libraries. If the journal is available in print form from us or from another participating library, you can order the requested article directly in HSGswisscovery as a copy or a scan. This is a fee based service.
Use academic search portals: In addition to Google Scholar, there are other search portals that can be used to find freely available versions of journal articles.
Note on Google Scholar: In addition to free literature, you can also use Google Scholar to display access to content licensed by us. To do so, the following two options are available:
Browser extensions show you on publisher pages whether there are also freely available versions of an article you are looking for. Recommended browser extensions are:
In general, authors of academic publications retain a right to “scholarly sharing”. They may share their content with interested persons upon request.
Contact the author directly and ask whether a copy of the article can be sent to you as part of scholarly sharing.
If none of these ways leads to the required full text of an article: contact us at elibrary@unisg.ch and we will check whether there are other paths to obtain the full text.
