Measures for foreign-language students

For foreign-language students of the German-language Assessment Year, the university offers two measures of additional support.

Extension of the Assessment Year to four semesters

Students who are enrolled in the German-language Assessment Year but have a native language other than German are allowed to extend the Assessment Year from two to four semesters. A student’s native language is considered the language of the majority of his or her schooling and is declared and verified in the course of registering for study at the HSG and decides whether the prerequisites are fulfilled. Students with familial obligations or top-level athletes studying in the German- or English-language Assessment Year, can also request an extension.

Students who are granted such an extension are required to pursue their studies according to the study plan specified in the Implementation Provisions Academic Programmes. If the Assessment Year is extended, provisional admission to the Bachelor’s Studies is possible after the 2nd semester of the Assessment Year. The prerequisites here are that no more than one examination from the first and/or second semester of the extension is outstanding and that the evidence of sufficient knowledge of accounting has been provided by the end of the second semester of the extension.

In this way, students can slow down the pace of the examinations and take more time to dive into better understanding the specialized knowledge involved.

Important:

Measures will be taken only upon request. The request form can be asked from the Dean's Advisory Office (assessmentunisg.ch) beginning 1 August and must be submitted no later than the Friday of calendar week 39. Requests that are not submitted by the deadline, are not formally correct, and/or are incomplete will not be considered.
