With this award, the Institute for Production and Supply Chain Management at the University of St.Gallen honours companies that make a special contribution to Swiss industry through their innovative strength, economic performance and commitment to Switzerland as a business location. The award is based on the annual Swiss Manufacturing Survey. A total of 404 people from 388 Swiss companies took part in the 2026 survey.

In a multi-stage process, ten companies were selected for in-depth case studies. Five candidates were then assessed by an academic jury. Alongside Endress+Hauser Flow, the finalists included Nussbaum Matzingen (TG), Bionic Composite Technologies St. Gallen (SG), DERO from Liedertswil (BL) and FRAISA from Bellach (SO).

The award’s new name, the “Roman Hänggi Swiss Manufacturing Award”, honours the memory of Professor Roman Hänggi, who passed away in 2026 and who was deeply committed to innovation, competitiveness and the future of Switzerland as a manufacturing hub.

Long-term focus, high vertical integration and investment in development

The specialist in measurement and automation technology from Reinach impressed the jury with its high level of innovation, economic strength and long-term investment strategy. The decisive factor was the company’s strength across a range of areas. In the Swiss Manufacturing Survey 2026, Endress+Hauser Flow achieved consistently high ratings, including for its resilience during economically challenging times.

The award was presented at the production management conference on 20 October 2026 in St.Gallen, where the jury highlighted the company’s clear commitment to Switzerland as a manufacturing location.

Endress+Hauser Flow is expanding its international presence while continuing to invest in Reinach. And new production capacities abroad complement manufacturing in Switzerland rather than replace it. The company combines strong local production with a global manufacturing network. Underpinning this are substantial investments in research and development, a high degree of vertical integration and the long-term orientation of a family-run business. Endress+Hauser Flow thus demonstrates how Swiss industrial companies can remain successful despite high costs and international competitive pressure. Success stories for Switzerland as an industrial location

The Institute for Production and Supply Chain Management at the University of St.Gallen uses this award to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial practice. The award highlights the strategies Swiss companies use to strengthen their competitiveness and continue to manufacture successfully even under challenging conditions.

The findings from the Swiss Manufacturing Survey and the in-depth company analyses provide valuable insights for research, teaching and academic exchange with industry. The award thus helps to raise awareness of successful approaches in Swiss production management.

The results of the Swiss Manufacturing Survey 2026 show that such success stories are in demand: while companies rate Switzerland as a production location more positively than in the previous year, geopolitical uncertainty, high costs and a slowing pace of innovation are increasing the pressure to adapt. Endress+Hauser Flow is a prime example of how these challenges can be met: through innovative strength, a long-term strategy and investment in Switzerland as a manufacturing location.
