Open Access News: Nature Research and Oxford

At the start of 2023, we want to give you an update on your current options for publishing Open Access that are supported by the HSG library.

In 2023, after intense negotiations, we can add two new publishers to our portfolio:
- Oxford University Press
- Nature Research Journals

You may remember that in 2022, we didn't have a reading agreement with OUP at all. After several years of negotiating for a Read & Publish agreement, with OUP not showing any signs of moving towards an acceptable solution, all Swiss academic libraries decided - as a last resort - to boycott further negotiations. As a result, we were not able to offer access to OUP content from 2022. This was no easy decision, as we knew that we put a burden on our researchers and students. Still, in the end, the strategy paid off. For 2023, we not only received an update with access to the full OUP journal portfolio but can additionally offer now publishing Open Access.

To benefit from these two agreements, you must be the corresponding author, currently being affiliated with the University of St.Gallen, and with the article being accepted for publication after 01.01.2023. Furthermore, your article must be published in one of the participating journals:
- Oxford University Press
- Nature Research Journals

The complete list of Read & Publish agreements managed by HSG library can be found on our Open Access page. This page is constantly updated and holds information on eligibility criteria per publisher as well as general information on Open Access. If you should have any questions, please don't hesitate, and contact us: openaccessunisg.ch.
