Schwerpunkte

Jelena Tosic ist Assistenzprofessorin für Transkulturelle Studien und ab 2025 Senior Lecturer/Titularprofessorin für Migrationsstudien an der Universität St.Gallen. Sie war Vertretungsprofessorin (Staat und Transnationalismus) an der Universität Bern (2014/2015), Juniorprofessorin für Ethnologie an der Universität Konstanz (2013/2014), APART AAS-CEE Fellow der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (2011-2017) und Gastforscherin an verschiedenen Universitäten und Forschungseinrichtungen (MPI für Sozialanthropologie Halle an der Saale, FMK Belgrad, Center for Balkan Studies / Goldsmiths University, MMG MPI Göttingen etc). Sie promovierte mit einer Ethnographie über soziokulturelle Transformationen im post-sozialistischen Serbien (Universität Wien). In ihrer Habilitation (Universität Bern) entwickelte sie eine ethnographische/ historisch-anthropologische Perspektive auf Grenzgebiete in Südosteuropa durch die Linse von Migration/Flucht. Derzeit ist sie Projektleiterin im Projekt "Europe's Un/Deserving: Moralisierungen von Ungleichheit in vergleichender Perspektive" (2021-2024, gefördert durch den SNF) an der Universität St. Gallen. Sie ist Mitherausgeberin der EASA-Reihe bei Berghahn (2020-24) und war Co-Convenor der Regionalgruppe Europa der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie (DGSKA, 2013-2021).

Ihre Forschungsinteressen umfassen: (Im)Mobilität, Flucht/Migration, Grenzen; Staatsbürgerschaft; Ungleichheit, Deservingness; Transkulturalität/Transnationalismus; Bildung; Tango; Methoden (Ethnographie, Historische Anthropologie/Erinnerungskulturen, Vergleichende Forschung).
