Matthias earned his Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from the Ivey Business School in Canada. His academic journey started at the University of St.Gallen (BA-HSG and SIM-HSG) and led him to the Universidad del Pacífico in Peru, and the Nanyang Business School at the Nanyang Technology University (MBA) in Singapore.

Prof. Dr. Matthias A. Tietz is an Assistant Professor and leads the Competence Center for Entrepreneurship at the St.Gallen Institute of Management in Asia (SGI-HSG), which is the local institute of the University of St.Gallen in Singapore. His research interests are in the area of entrepreneurial decision making, corporate innovation, and business model copycats. As an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and SME Management, Matthias is a member of the School of Management at the University of St.Gallen and teaches on the bachelor and master level.

Matthias regularly presents at prestigious international conferences in the fields of entrepreneurship and management, including the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference, Academy of Management Annual Meetings and the International Council for Small Business Conference. He holds affiliate positions at IE Business School in Madrid where he researched and taught for seven years, as well as at the INDEG ISCTE Institute in Lisbon and the Mediterranean School of Business in Tunis.

Prior to his career in academia, Matthias consulted with several companies in Europe, Asia, and South America, mostly in the domains of HR and turnaround management. Amongst others, Matthias worked with DHL, Henkel, Sulzer Engineering, and P&G. He led executive education seminars for managers in China, Macedonia, Spain, Portugal, Tunisia and Russia. He volunteered in a pro bono project with rural entrepreneurs in Peru. Matthias brings professional experience and an international outlook to the classroom. He is invested in two international startups and serves as an advisor to two female led international ventures. Prior to moving to Singapore, he was affiliated with a UK Venture Capitalist. Matthias has a deep appreciation of cultural differences and likes to learn about entrepreneurial solutions in different contexts. He finds enjoyment in running, hiking and Latin music.
