New Book Explores the Theory of International Trade

HSG-Professors Reto Foellmi and Stefan Legge have published Understanding International Trade with Oxford University Press. Their new book explores the foundations of international trade and examines its implications for prosperity, economic interdependence, and inequality.

No single country can produce an iPhone entirely on its own. Its components come from more than 40 countries across six continents. This example illustrates how interconnected the global economy has become – and how international trade shapes our everyday lives.

In their new book, Understanding International Trade: Insights from Trade Theory, published by Oxford University Press, HSG professors Reto Foellmi and Stefan Legge explore the economic foundations of international trade. They examine why countries trade, who benefits, and how trade affects welfare and income distribution.

Combining classical and modern trade theories with intuitive examples, graphical illustrations, and mathematical models, the book provides a comprehensive yet accessible introduction to the mechanisms driving global trade flows and their implications for economic policy.

At a time of growing geopolitical tensions, economic interdependence, and trade disputes, the publication offers valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of globalization.

The book is aimed at students, researchers, and professionals interested in international economics and economic policy.
