Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Bachelor in Computer Science (BCS)

With our Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, you can directly enter our master programme in Computer Science (MCS), pursue another Master in Computer Science, or enrol in a related master programme at another university. It is also possible to obtain a second bachelor degree at the University of St.Gallen. Depending on your course selection and planning, a second bachelor degree can be completed with an additional effort of 3 semesters (instead of 6). A second bachelor degree opens up additional study programmes, depending on which second bachelor you complete. For example, with a Bachelor in Business Administration, all master programmes at the School of Management (SoM) are accessible, except for the Master in Strategy and International Management (SIM) and the Master in Management, Organisation, and Culture (MOK).

Information on admission to the Assessment Year can be found here: Admission to Bachelor Studies. Make sure to select the correct tab (distinguishing between Swiss and international qualifications).

If you do not have Swiss citizenship or a C residence permit, you may also be interested in the HSG selection process. This explains in detail what you need in order to do to participate in the entrance examination. Please note the early deadline for the exam in February.

No, it is only possible to start in the autumn semester.

The first year of study (Assessment Year) can only be extended in very few exceptional cases (e.g., for elite athletes or due to family obligations). In all cases, the first year must be completed as a full-time programme. However, those who pass the first year have more flexibility and can arrange their studies to fit their needs. The recommendation is to study full-time, but you can also choose fewer courses and create any alternative model that works for you.
