About the Workshop

In a competitive job market, it is not enough to list skills and experiences. The ability to clearly articulate what drives you, what you bring to the table, and what distinguishes you from other candidates is key to a successful career transition.

This workshop supports postdoctoral researchers who wish to sharpen their professional identity in preparation for a transition into industry or other non-academic fields and who would like to develop a clear, authentic, and strategically positioned professional profile. It addresses questions that are central to recruitment processes but often difficult to answer: What makes you stand out? Why should an employer choose you?

Drawing on the marketing concept of the Unique Selling Proposition (USP), participants will identify and articulate their individual strengths and learn how to translate academic experience into competencies valued beyond academia. The aim is to develop a compelling professional profile that captures not only what you can do, but also how you work, what motivates you, and what sets you apart.

Prior to the workshop, participants complete the HSG Career Profiler, a validated diagnostic instrument that provides an evidence-based starting point for exploring work-related interests, competencies, and values. Building on these results and using a range of reflective methods, participants will develop their personal USP and practice communicating it effectively.

The final part of the workshop focuses on opportunities and requirements in the non-academic job market and on presenting individual strengths convincingly in recruitment and selection processes.
