The negotiations between swissuniversities and the publisher Wiley, which have been ongoing since April 2024, for an extension of the existing Read & Publish Agreement could not be concluded by the deadline of the end of 2024. Even though the negotiations between the parties are continuing, we will start 2025 with no agreement in place. This will have various implications for members of the University of St.Gallen.
No changes: access to content published until the end of 2024 remains unaffected.
Until further notice, access to new content published in 2025 is possible. Wiley is granting access during a «grace period», for the duration of the ongoing negotiations.
For articles accepted for publication in a Wiley journal after January 1, 2025, the costs of Open Access publication cannot be covered during the contract-free period. Whether affected articles can be published retrospectively in Open Access is now part of the ongoing negotiations.
Researchers can continue to publish in hybrid journals, but they are encouraged not to pay any Article Processing Charges (APC). APCs are a source of income for the publisher. This weakens the negotiating position of swissuniversities.
We recommend that researchers exercise their rights and deposit the accepted manuscript version in Alexandria (Green Open Access). Depending on the journal's policy, an embargo period may apply. The HSG Library can help you with this: openaccess@unisg.ch.
If there should be any changes to the current situation, we will update this page.
