During the semester the HSG library offers a range of courses about specific research, reference management and academic writing as well as library tours.

Introduction to using the library and HSGswisscovery

Library introduction "All in one hour"

Objective You have registered for HSGswisscovery using a SWITCH edu-ID account and you have added your library card number. You are able to research books and magazines in HSGswisscovery and you know where to obtain them in the library and how to borrow them yourself. You have taken note of our borrowing regulations and you can reserve and order documents via HSGswisscovery..
Content The library's range of media, borrowing conditions, HSGswisscovery:
  • searching for authors, titles, keywords
  • use of physical and electronic stock
  • your user account, reservations, book orders from the Speicherbibliothek
  • SLSP-courier, e-books
A tour of the library:
  • rooms, workstations, computers, scanners/photocopiers, rules
  • fetching a document you found in HSGswisscovery from the shelf
  • self-service checkout terminal

Course for students on a bachelor's or master's level who are looking to start their thesis or an extensive seminar paper.

Are you planning your Bachelor's thesis, Master's thesis or an extensive seminar paper? Do you know the topic but not how to start your research? Which sources should you choose? How do you adequately integrate references into your text? And how do you cite your sources correctly?

The HSG Library and HSG Writing Lab will help to answer these and other questions in a learning programme for students on a Bachelor's or a Master's level to be held four times a year.

The course will be held for students of economics and social sciences.

You will learn:

  • in-depth search for scientic information and quality assessment of sources
  • competent use of information, correct and adequate integration of foreign thoughts into your own text

Target Audience:
Students on a Bachelor's or Master's level who are looking to start their thesis or an extensive seminar paper.
