Master's programme of the HSG ranked 6th in the "Financial Times" ranking

The international business newspaper "Financial Times" has named the Master's programme in Banking and Finance (MBF-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen as one of the best in the world. The MBF-HSG occupies sixth place in the ranking of Master's programmes in Finance, which was published today in London, making it the best-ranked programme in the German-speaking world.

15 June 2020. In its ranking for the year 2020, the "Financial Times" lists the best Master's programs in Finance from 56 leading universities and colleges around the world. Various criteria, such as the programme's contribution towards the achievement of professional goals, the value for money, the international character of the programmes, the balance between male and female students and the overall satisfaction of the graduates, were examined and evaluated.

Regularly in the Top Ten

In the "Financial Times Masters in Finance Ranking", the Master in Banking and Finance at the University of St.Gallen has been continually ranked among the top ten since 2012. The annual analysis carried out by the "Financial Times" is considered the global benchmark for academic excellence in master programmes in finance. The programme of the École des hautes études commerciales (HEC) Paris holds top spot in the latest ranking, with the University of Oxford, for example, achieving tenth place.

Questioning Developments Critically

There is on average an international group of about 130 students from Germany and abroad enrolled at the MBF-HSG. "We give our students the tools they will need for the rest of their entire professional lives," says Professor Manuel Ammann, Academic Director of the program. "Methodological knowledge is just as important as a creative form of problem solving".

The ability to critically question developments in the financial industry and to make responsible decisions is essential during training. For Professor Manuel Ammann, it is not only important to communicate content just because it is up-to-date. "We want to give students a holistic perspective of developments in the financial industry. They should have the courage to address problems and work towards improvement."
