During the semester the HSG library offers a range of courses about specific research, reference management and academic writing as well as library tours.

Introduction o the use of the library and HSGswisscovery

ContentIn this course, participants learn how to use the library's media services and how to research efficiently in HSGswisscovery - from searching for authors, titles and keywords to accessing physical and digital media, registering and managing your own user account, reserving and ordering media. There will also be a guided tour of the library with information about workstations, computers, scanners and self-checkout.

Learn more about using our financial databases

ContentThe course provides an overview of the range of corporate and capital markets databases. Key data sources such as LSEG Workspace and LSEG Datastream will be introduced. It will be shown how to search these databases for the required figures and data. Participants will also gain an insight into working with the WRDS data platform, which provides access to the majority of our databases in this area.  
 
The research can be carried out directly on the participants' own notebooks.

Course for students on a bachelor's or master's level who are looking to start their thesis or an extensive seminar paper.

Are you planning your Bachelor's thesis, Master's thesis or an extensive seminar paper? Do you know the topic but not how to start your research? Which sources should you choose? How do you adequately integrate references into your text? And how do you cite your sources correctly?

The HSG Library and HSG Writing Lab will help to answer these and other questions in a learning programme for students on a Bachelor's or a Master's level to be held four times a year.

The course will be held for students of economics and social sciences.

You will learn:

  • in-depth search for scientic information and quality assessment of sources
  • competent use of information, correct and adequate integration of foreign thoughts into your own text

Target Audience:
Students on a Bachelor's or Master's level who are looking to start their thesis or an extensive seminar paper.

Introduction to legal databases and sources

ContentThe course introduces the basics of legal literature research. After an overview of the information offered by the HSG library, the course will cover research strategies, the HSG repositories (Alexandria, EDIS, EDOK), important information databases on Swiss law (LEX Campus, legalis, Weblaw Campus, BGer) as well as some foreign databases (e.g. Beck-Online, Juris, Westlaw, Hein Online).
