Since 1921, the Student Union (SHSG) officially represents all students of the University of St.Gallen. In this context the Student Union has two main tasks. On the one hand it acts as an advocate for the students and on the other hand it provides various services such as the student bars [ad]hoc and MeetingPoint & theCO Café, the student magazine prisma or the student exchange programmes of the Ressort International. Representing the students’ interests mainly entails participation in all university bodies and in various commissions of the academic self-administration. The two main bodies of the Student Union are the parliament and the board which is headed by a presidential duo. The board is the executive branch and responsible for the operative delivery of strategic decisions of the parliament, which is the legislative body. It is the SHSG’s goal to play an active role in shaping the university’s future and to enhance the availability of cultural and leisure activities. Furthermore, the Student Union acts as an umbrella organisation for all student activities and, thus, coordinates all the student clubs.
