What makes an application successful? How do you write a proposal for funding organizations? In this workshop, we will discuss the basics for a successful application.
To realize research projects and advance an academic career, it is important to raise funds for research projects. But what makes an application successful? How do you write a proposal for funding organizations? In this workshop, we will discuss the basics for a successful application. The workshop is aimed at researchers who would like to apply for funding for their research project and who have little or no experience in writing proposals.
We will focus in particular on these topics:
• (Further) developing a project idea
• Planning and writing a funding application, with special attention to:
• writing an effective introduction
• the convincing presentation of a research plan
• writing an abstract and a title
• the characteristics of the language style of a research proposal
• how to avoid typical mistakes
• passing the review process.
Preparation
Participants are requested to bring a project idea that they are working on or will be working on in the near future.
Format
The workshop consists of a mix of presentations and practical exercises. Participants should be willing to share and discuss their texts with other participants. They will write a text between the first and the second workshop day. The second part of the workshop is dedicated to discussing participants’ texts.
